2nd Annual Diversity Luncheon

“Achieving Excellence through Diversity”

VSU and the local community continued in their commitment to reap the benefits of inclusion by celebrating the 2nd Annual Diversity Luncheon in the University Center’s Magnolia Room on March 30, 2004. The event, sponsored by the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs and Multicultural Affairs, featured various cultural displays, musical entertainment and a menu filled with a variety of ethnic culinary cuisine.

Dr. Beverley Richardson-Blake greeted the overflow crowd by reminding everyone that although we are different in some way or another, we all share in including all people in our life circles. Cultural displays were provided by VACA (Valdosta Asian Cultural Association) & SIS (Society of International Students, VSU).

Yanstar, who hails from Korea and Kenta Sakuramoto, from Japan, are both members of SIS. They performed a guitar duo entitled, “Korea in Song.” The professional duo of Jim McMillan and Dick Rixey, better known as Rixey & McMillan, provided “A Taste of Musical Culture” by performing traditional Irish & Scottish songs throughout the luncheon.

Many campus and local community dignitaries attended the luncheon including Dr. Ronald Zaccari-President and members of his Cabinet, John Fretti-Mayor of Valdosta, Willie Head-Mayor ProTem of Valdosta, the Lowndes County Commissioners, representatives from the Lowndes County and Valdosta City school systems and other community leaders.
