VSU Faculty & Staff experts - Michael Savoie
Michael Savoie is an Associate Professor of Mass Media in the Department of Communication Arts. As part of the Mass Media faculty, Professor Savoie oversees teaching, creative projects, and research in broadcasting and web-based media. He has developed international projects and initiatives in the study of media and production with partners and study programs in St. Petersburg, Russia; Eger, Hungary; London, England; and Paris, France. With Mass Media Professor Frank Barnas, he has created and coordinates an emphasis in International Documentary Production within the Mass Media degree program. Professor Savoie is currently coordinating several productions by students in this degree emphasis including a documentary on the London terrorist bombings. He is also actively involved with study abroad initiatives and is a co-director of the European Council's London Summer Study Program.
Presently, Professor Savoie is the Faculty Associate for the Center of International Programs for the 2005-06 academic year. While serving in this capacity, he has overseen the recruitment efforts for the European Council's Summer Study programs, coordinated visits by students and faculty from the St. Petersburg University for Humanities and Social Sciences in St. Petersburg, Russia and Eszterhazy Karoly in Eger, Hungary. In addition, he has coordinated and extended partnerships with these institutions by renewing partner agreements and overseeing faculty exchanges. As a faculty associate and International Advisory Committee member, Professor Savoie has created and chairs a sub-committee on Study Abroad Programs to advise and coordinate program planning and recruitment.
Professor Savoie's education is in Drama and Communications with a specialization in Film and Video Production. He holds a Masters degree of Fine Arts from the University of New Orleans and completed his degree in 1994. He comes to Valdosta State University after spending five years in the field of media production. He has worked for companies and clients from around the world and has traveled extensively while working in the film and video industries.
