CPR Certification
Full Certification Class for Junior 1 generic students only:
All students must be certified with Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professionals (BLS for HCP) through the American Heart Association (AHA). We must restrict the type of certification to AHA because some of our agencies mandate AHA certification for their employees and anyone who affiliates with them. So, if you are not already currently certified with BLS for HCP through the AHA you have the opportunity to do so August 23rd here in the College of Nursing. Dr. Weaver and her colleagues will provide a first time BLS for HCP course from 8:30 – 4:30.. Each class is limited to 24 students based on the three projected faculty available. This is the ONLY offering for students in the College of Nursing for Fall 2008.
Please register with Ms. Beverly Sharpe before August 18th by 5 pm. When you register you will need a check or money order for $45 made out to VSU College of Nursing Foundation and note CPR in the memo section of your check. In return, you will receive a book that you must have read before coming on August 23rd. When you arrive August 23rd you will be expected to do group practice and individual performance of CPR and associated skills while watching a video as a teaching strategy. Then you must pass an exam of 20 questions (you can miss only 3 questions and pass). Then you must do an individual skill validation. Once you have participated in the teaching/practice session, passed the exam with 17 out of 20 points or better, and demonstrated satisfactory skill validation you will be considered certified. I will submit the roster and will distribute cards when they are sent to me. I will submit the roster to Ms. Gunn and your first semester faculty so you will be considered compliant with that clinical prerequisite. If you have any questions you may email me at dlweaver@valdosta.edu
