CALL FOR PAPERS
NOTES ON TEACHING ENGLISH is seeking scholarly papers (1500-3000 words) for the December 2006 special topic issue: Teaching Students about the Global Environment.
Rationale: Too often, students--and teachers--think in terms of "us and them" when discussing other nations, cultures, and ethnicities. Articles submitted should discuss ways to help college-level students move past compare / contrast models for understanding the global community.
Scholarly Apparatus: All submissions should incorporate the ideas and theories of other scholars on the topic.
Possible approaches:
Teaching writing or literature incorporating technology to increase student access to foreign students or teachers.
The use of foreign exchange, study abroad programs, and international studies in teaching writing or literature.
Incorporating non-comparative methods into world literature courses.
