Visitor's Guide

Whether you visit for a spell or stay a lifetime, Valdosta, Georgia welcomes you! Valdosta, which means "Vale of Beauty," is certainly deserving of its name. The mild climate and beautiful landscapes have made this rich, lush area a favorite. In the heart of Valdosta, you will find the Valdosta State University campus.

Valdosta State University is just the right size, big enough to offer the extensive academic and social opportunities of a major university and small enough to provide the personal attention you would expect of a selective private college. Our campus has a natural beauty like no other. Around our campus flourishes pines, palms, dogwoods, camellias and lots of azaleas! This guide will provide information for a pleasant and informative visit to Valdosta State University.

Directions to VSU

City Map

Interstate 75
Follow Interstate 75 to Exit 18 and travel east into Valdosta. Turn left at the second traffic signal onto Gornto Road. At the next traffic signal turn right onto Baytree Road. Follow Baytree Road until it dead ends into the VSU campus. Turn right, here, onto Oak Street. At the first traffic signal, turn left onto Brookwood Drive. At the next traffic signal, turn left onto Patterson Street. The Admissions office will be on the right.

From Waycross on U.S. 84 (from east)
When entering Valdosta, U.S. 84 becomes Hill Avenue. Follow Hill Avenue to the center of the city (courthouse) and turn right onto Ashley Street (one-way north). Stay in extreme left lane which will become a left-turn-only lane, after two blocks. Turn left on Magnolia Street, go one block and turn right on Patterson Street. Follow Patterson Street north approximately 4 traffic signals. The Admissions office will be on the right.

From Thomasville on U.S. 84 (from west)
Follow U.S. 84 to Interstate 75. Take Interstate 75 north to next exit (Exit 18). Exit Interstate and head east into Valdosta (turn right off of exit ramp). Follow the rest of the Interstate 75 directions above to reach the VSU campus.

From Douglas on Highway 221
When approaching Valdosta, Hwy 221 becomes Park Avenue. Continue on Park Avenue (west) until you reach the intersection of Patterson Street. Turn left on Patterson Street and head south approximately 6 blocks. The Admissions office will be on the left.

From Moultrie on Highway 94
Follow Hwy 94 east into Valdosta. Pass over Interstate 75 (Exit 18) and follow the rest of the Interstate 75 directions above to reach the VSU campus.

Campus Parking

Visitor parking spaces are designated by Visitor Parking signs across the campus. Temporary Parking Passes are available at the Admissions Office and the Parking Office.

Accommodations

There are a number of motels and bed and breakfast facilities around the immediate Valdosta area that offer a wide variety of services. All are within a few miles of the campus. Most are found along Interstate 75 near Exits 16, 18, and 22. The following are some of the accommodation listings in our area.

Local Highlights

The Crescent

The Crescent is a beautiful old Southern home, located just 3 blocks south of the Valdosta State campus on Patterson Street. The old-style charm of this house has been the setting of numerous weddings, parties and even a motion picture! Stop by for a few minutes and relax in one of the rocking chairs on the large rounded porch that surrounds the house and enjoy traditional southern hospitality.

The Colonial Mall and Lake Park Factory Outlets

We have the Colonial Mall with 75 department and specialty stores and restaurants, located just a mile and a half from the Valdosta State campus. Also, anyone who has traveled I-75 knows about our factory outlet stores at Exit 5 in Lake Park, Georgia. There are three adjoining centers with close to 150 factory-direct stores.

City of Remerton

Just down the road from campus is the small city of Remerton. On Plum Street you will find numerous antique and craft shops to plunder through at your leisure.
