Cheryl Lynn Tomlinson
Cheryl Tomlinson was the recipient of the Marga Award in 2007. She received her degree in political science in May 2007. While at VSU, she served as the Chief Justice of the judicial board for SGA, worked at a law office and played intramural sports. Cheryl attended high school at Georgia Christian School in Dasher, Ga.
I chose to attend VSU because… it is a great school that is close to home. I love the fact that Valdosta has a metropolitan status, but still has the small town feel and function.
My favorite things to do on campus are… attend the fascinating lectures that VSU brings to campus. I have learned so much from listening to scholars talk about their area of expertise.
When I have free time, I like… co-coaching and playing intramural sports. I love basketball and softball. It provides a great opportunity to exercise and meet new people.
The craziest thing I’ve done is… jump in the Valdosta High School pond in the early morning as dare in the middle of winter.
My favorite place to study is… at home when I’m alone or sometimes I like to go to Books-A-Million and get in one of their comfortable chairs and read.
My favorite professor is… Dr. Sara Bartholomew in legal studies. She is a great asset to Valdosta State. Every professor I have had has been extraordinarily helpful and always has their door open for you. VSU is truly a great school based on the professors alone.
The most interesting class I’ve taken at VSU was… introduction to communication with Crystal Hayes. It was a new look at communicating and the professor was terrific.
If I could spend an afternoon with anyone, I would share it with… my great-grandfather. I love him dearly. I would also love to spend a day with anyone in history that has handled adversity well because I could gain a wealth of knowledge from them to use in my own day to day life.
If I knew I could not fail, I would… drive a race car in the Indianapolis 500.
After graduation, I plan to… attend law school.
The one VSU experience I will always remember will be… actually telling my professors that I had been accepted to law school.
