George Metros
VSU’s Air Force ROTC program consistently commissions some of the best and brightest into career fields of all kinds, and VSU Alumnus Lt. George Metros is no exception. The May 2007 graduate, who holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, is stationed at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta as he awaits orders to attend pilot training at Vance AFB, Okla.
Lt. Metros exemplifies the qualities that both VSU and the Air Force hold in such high esteem. He is humble, yet determined to succeed; hard working and willing to do what he can to help others. These qualities, among great success are the reasons why he was chosen as the 2007 winner of the Mac Award, one of VSU most prestigious academic honors. He was honored not only his academic achievement, but also his involvement with campus organizations, including Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Society, ROTC, Arnold Air Society and College Republicans. He leads by example in academia and life, and now serves his country with pride.
The 22-year-old, who loves football and outdoor recreation, is engaged to early childhood education major, Chelsea Brassfield.

I chose to attend VSU because... I saw the campus and I loved it. I was accepted to FSU and was planning on going there, but I came to VSU for a scholarship interview and saw how nice the school was so I decided to come here instead.
My favorite things to do on campus were... hanging out with friends, playing intramural sports like football and ultimate Frisbee on the front lawn, and going to VSU football games.
When I have free time, I like... to be outside, doesn't really matter what I'm doing. I just enjoy being outdoors. I love to hunt and fish and I enjoy camping when I get the time to do it.
The craziest thing I've done is... During Spring Break of 2006, I drove across the country for 10 days in a van I rented with four of my friends. We drove from Valdosta to California and made stops along the way, including San Antonio, the Grand Canyon, and Las Vegas. We even slept in the van a couple times.
My favorite professors were... Dr. Prine and Dr. Robinson, both Criminal Justice professors. They both have such unique teaching styles and are quick to help their students. I learned a lot from both of them.
The most interesting class I took at VSU was... Sex Crimes with Dr. Robinson. We studied a lot about human behavior and why sex criminals commit crimes. We also learned that there are a lot of screwed up people in the world.
If I could share an afternoon with anyone, I would love to share it with... Ronald Reagan. He was a genius and didn't let anyone take advantage of him. He was the greatest president we've ever had and without him, we all might be speaking Russian right now.
If I knew I could not fail, I would... play the lottery, or run for president, maybe both.
The one VSU experience I will always remember is... when VSU won the national championship in football in 2004. I was watching it on TV with friends and it was unforgettable.
