Jeffrey Felton

Jeffrey Felton, No. 1, said he had never felt more proud to be a part of the Blazer Nation then when he walked as a team captain onto the football field for the championship game coin toss. VSU’s 2006-07 Male Athlete of the Year said it was the greatest moment of his life.

Jeffrey FeltonThe 23-year-old wide receiver, who will graduate in May with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, said VSU football has helped him balance life and appreciate the rewards of perseverance.

“It was difficult to win the championship in 2004 just to be defeated two years in a row, but we kept our eyes on the goal and put in the work needed for victory,” said Felton, who plans to attend pharmacy school after graduation. “But we couldn’t have accomplished any of this without the leadership of coach Dean.”

Felton considers head football coach David Dean a personal hero. The president of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity said he has never met anyone with Dean’s vision or commitment to team and family. At the 2007 press conference to announce Dean as VSU’s head coach, Felton presented Dean with a T-shirt the senior made that read “Dean Machine.”

Felton’s complimentary nature and selfless attitude are a few of the reasons why players voted for him to represent the team as one of its captains. The 5’9” wide receiver from Cordele, Ga., said he strives to lead by example — maintaining a strong work ethic and accountability for his actions.

I chose to attend VSU because… the beautiful campus, academic excellence and athletic success.

My favorite things to do on campus are… hang out in Palms Quad.

When I have free time, I like… to talk to friends and listen to music.

The craziest thing I’ve done is… join a fraternity (I was never the fraternity type).

My favorite place to study is…the Bio-chem building’s “Fishbowl” room.

My favorite professor is… Dr. Thomas Manning.

The most interesting class I’ve taken at VSU was… Biochemistry

If I could spend an afternoon with anyone, I would share it with…my girlfriend Kimberly Stuart.

If I knew I could not fail, I would…run for president.

After graduation, I plan to…attend pharmacy school.

The one VSU experience I will always remember will be…VSU Athletics.

My favorite things about VSU… have been the campus and the people. The students and faculty are very diverse in ethnicities and attitudes. The campus and community are very welcoming and promote a productive college experience. I think VSU was the perfect choice for me. Valdosta State has allowed me to express and find myself through many avenues. I have been fortunate enough to be a student-athlete, a member of a fraternity and most importantly an alumni of one the best schools in the world. My time here has prepared me to go out and succeed in all of my future endeavors!
