VSU to sponsor a blood drive for the American Red CrossValdosta State University's Athletic Department will sponsor a community blood drive on Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the P.E. Complex. A goal of 60 units has been set for this drive.
According to Becky Barnes, American Red Cross Blood Services, the Red Cross experiences seasonal blood shortages in the summer and winter months. "Nationally, patients use 40,000 units of red blood cells each day," Barnes said. Travel and vacation time cause a decrease in the blood supply during the winter holidays and regular donors do not generally give because of vacations, flu season and bad weather.
For more information on the Athletic Department Blood Drive contact Bobby Tucker, assistant professor of Kinesiology and Physical Education, at 333-5899 or Becky Barnes, American Red Cross, at 259-7244.
