30th Annual Connell Lecture
7:30 - 9 p.m. - Jennett Hall, Room 1111 - The Department of Biology has invited Dr. Mark Brenner to speak at the 30th Annual Connell Lecture at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, in Jennett Hall, Room 1111. His talk is entitled "Climate and environmental change, and the collapse of Maya civilization: a history revealed in lake sediments." Dr. Brenner, Professor of Geological Sciences and Director of the Land Use and Environmental Change Institute at the University of Florida, is an expert in the field of limnology and paleolimnology where he uses sediment cores to understand historic changes in lake ecosystems. During his seminar, Dr. Brenner will discuss his work that has focused on long-term linkages among climate, environment and humans in the Lowlands of Central America and Mexico where the Ancient Mayan culture persisted for about two millennia and then collapsed mysteriously in the 9th century AD.

Dancing With the Greeks
