CMENC SPRING CONFERENCE

Valdosta State University’s CMENC Chapter is hosting a conference for all CMENC Members and music educators in the state of Georgia on Saturday, March 1, 2008. There are over twenty presenters that are taking part in this exciting event. They are giving up their Saturday to benefit CMENC Members, the future music educators in our state, and wish to share their years of experience and knowledge with us.

As part of this conference, an Honor Choir is being formed. The clinician working with this Honor Choir is our keynote speaker, Raymond Hughes. He just retired this year, having been the Chorus Master for the New York Metropolitan Opera for over sixteen years. Mr. Hughes will work with the Honor Choir, giving his interpretation to the choruses from some of the most beloved operas. The Honor Choir members must make an application to participate through their university professor, or choral director. The Honor Choir participants are expected to learn all music before their arrival in Valdosta. They will have the opportunity to work with Mr. Hughes in the following rehearsals:

Friday, February 29
3:00 – 5:00 PM – Rehearsal at Valdosta State University - College of the Arts, Whitehead Auditorium
7:00 – 9:00 PM - Rehearsal at Valdosta State University - College of the Arts, Whitehead Auditorium

Saturday, March 1st
1:00 – 3:00 PM – Final Rehearsal - College of the Arts, Whitehead Auditorium
5:30 PM – Concert - College of the Arts, Whitehead Auditorium

Participation in the Honor Choir is free; however, each singer is responsible for purchasing their own music for the event. Participation in the Honor Choir is part of the CMENC Conference.  If you have a group of high school students attending, they must be accompanied by a chaperone.

The Conference offerings on Saturday, March 1st, are open to current music educators (you can earn SDU or PLU Credit); Music Education, Bachelor of Arts, or Music Performance students;  or interested 11th 12th high school students. (High school students must be accompanied by their director or another responsible adult).

We hope you will join us for this exciting event. It will be a wonderful opportunity to learn from one of America’s leading choral conductors, and from some of our finest music educators.
