Blazin Brigade

Collage of Photos

Since 1983, the VSU Blazin' Brigade has been entertaining football fans while supporting the Blazers and representing the university and the state of Georgia. The Blazin' Brigade is one of the largest and most spirited organizations on campus. The marching band rehearses every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:00 - 5:50 throughout the fall season, which usually ends in mid-November. A week before classes begin, a required band camp is conducted. All members of the Blazin' Brigade must pay a $35 uniform fee. Performances include all home football games, as well as high school exhibitions and other special events.

For more information contact Eric Bradshaw, Director of Athletic Bands.

Winds: No audition is required for woodwind and brass players with high school experience. VSU will provide mellophones, marching baritones, sousaphones, percussion instruments, and some piccolos. Flute players are encouraged to play piccolo. All other students must provide their own instrument.

Percussion: The VSU drumline consists of snares, tenors, basses, cymbals, and mallet/pit percussion. Drumline members audition for instrument assignment during a weekend camp / audition during the summer.  Percussionists will receive a packet of warm-ups and audition material for this camp.

Auxiliaries: The color guard and feature twirlers perform as an integral part of the marching band. These units are a major contributor to the visual success of the Blazin' Brigade. Membership into these groups is by audition only. Color guard auditions will be held during a one day camp / clinic in May.  Anyone interested in being a feature twirler must submit a videotaped pre-audition; finalists are invited to an on-campus audition.
