LARRY SCULLY is a pianist with a broad and diverse background. He has performed recitals, concerti with orchestras, and chamber music throughout the United States and Europe. In 2002 he performed the premier of Piano Concerto No. 2 by Hungary's leading composer - Fryges Hidas. Dr. Scully has performed with the Penderecki String Quartet, the Minnesota Orchestra, Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, Sioux City Symphony , St. Paul Civic Symphony and the DaSalo Solisti Chamber Orchestra in Atlanta, GA. He made his European debut in 1984 in Germany and his New York debut in 1987 at Lincoln Center. In November 2007 Dr. Scully will present the final recital of the complete sonatas of Beethoven. This is a presentation of all the published and unpublished sonatas of Beethoven (39 works), and has been performed in 14 concerts over the last few years. This will be the 20th anniversary of his performances at Valdosta State University.

LARRY SCULLY received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Minnesota and has done postdoctoral studies at the Conservatory of Music in Munich, Germany. His piano teachers include Bernhard Weiser, Leon Fleisher and Jörg Demus and he studied composition with Paul Fetler and Dominick Argento. In 1980 he received 6th place in the International Bach Competition for Pianists in Washington, D.C. and was a finalist in the 1988 and 1990 International Beethoven Sonata Competition in Memphis, Tennessee. In addition to having served twice as Acting Department Head for the Department of Music at Valdosta State University, he is currently Chair of the Keyboard Area and Professor of Music. He is a member of the Georgia Music Educator's Association, the Georgia Music Teacher's Association and the Georgia Citizens for the Arts, and served as Instructor of Piano for the Georgia Governor's Honors Program from 1988 to 1996. From 1978 to 1987 Dr. Scully was on the faculty of the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, SD. He is the principal pianist with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, founder and Director of the Valdosta Chamber Players, a member of the Graduate Faculty, and was selected as a Georgia Governor's Teaching Fellow in 1998-99.

LARRY SCULLY is also well known as a concert accordionist. In the 1960's and '70's he won over 65 major accordion competitions and has performed in Carnegie Hall as well as with the Minnesota Orchestra. He is the only accordionist to win the prestigious Minnesota Orchestra Young People's Symphony Auditions. He has lectured and performed for the American Accordionist's Association, the Minnesota Accordion Guild, the Accordion Teacher's Guild, Int., the University of Minnesota Arts Festival and many other groups in the United States. In 2005 he performed the Concerto for Accordion and Chamber Orchestra by Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla with the Valdosta Chamber Players. His accordion teachers include Carl Hane, Charles Magnante, and Anthony Galla-Rini.

Dr. Scully is an avid gardener, gourmet cook, football fan, and member of the National Wild Turkey Federation. His friends and students frequently call him a "Renaissance Man". When not teaching at Valdosta State University, traveling on tour, going to a football game, or attending conventions, Dr. Scully can most likely be found at his summerhouse in Washington County, GA tending his hundred acres of pine trees or enjoying the serenity of nature with his Boykin spaniel, Sonja. He has two sons - Bernhard, principal horn with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Joseph in Minneapolis, MN.
