Violinist Nina Lutz has been concertmaster of the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and first violinist of the VSU Faculty String Quartet since 1992. She also teaches applied violin, Music Theory and Functional Piano at VSU. Nina spends her summers performing orchestral and chamber music in Breckenridge, Colorado, where she is assistant concertmaster. In addition to her activities in the VSU Music Department, Nina maintains a thriving private studio teaching violin and piano. Nina also is active performing in varying venues throughout the South Georgia area and she forms a Violin/Classical Guitar Duo: Nephina, with Nephtali Santiago. She graduated high school from the Interlochen Arts Academy, received the BM in Performance from the University of Illinois and received the MM in Violin Performance and Literature from the Eastman School of Music. She has performed with the Springfield Symphony, Fort Wayne Symphony, the Chicago Ballet Orchestra, the Savannah Symphony, the Jacksonville Symphony and the core of the Charleston Symphony. Summer festivals include the National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado, the Breckenridge Music Institute and the Heidelberg Schloss-Spiele. In Germany Ms. Lutz also studied with Angela Sinell and performed with the Würzburg State Theatre and the Bamberg Symphony with whom she toured Spain extensively. She worked with German composer and string player Bertold Hummel and subsequently performed the US premiere of his Solo Violin Sonata for which he generously donated one of his violins to Nina. She currently plays on the Kloz violin he gave her.
