Susan Eischeid currently holds the position of Principal Oboe with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and also serves as Professor of Music at Valdosta State University. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and her Master of Music degree from the Philadelphia University of the Arts. Dr. Eischeid played for several years with the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra. She has also performed with the Richmond Symphony, the West Virginia Symphony, and the Cincinnati Ballet Orchestra. Dr. Eischeid currently serves on the faculty of the summer Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she performs with the Eastern Philharmonic Orchestra and the Eastern Chamber Players. Her major teachers include Robert Bloom, Sara Lambert Bloom, and James Gorton. She was recently appointed a Fellow in the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning as part of the Distinguished Professor Program at Valdosta State University. On March 5, 2000, Dr. Eischeid was featured soloist in the world premiere of an oboe concerto written by noted Hungarian composer Frigyes Hidas. In November of 2000 she was featured in a College Music Society recital of American composers in Toronto, Ontario. In July of 2001 she performed the same composition at a recital in Limerick, Ireland. Dr. Eischeid's first solo compact disc (CD) was released in March of 2001 by ACA Digital Recordings. In 2004 Dr. Eischeid was the recipient of the Valdosta State University, College of the Arts Award for Excellence in Professional Activity.
