Now that we have explored a complex array of approaches to management of Web-based documents, what software is available to assist in the management of these documents?

There are many and no list can be exhaustive. The necessary WARNING is that these software solutions are in flux and the end user -- you -- are in the final analysis the only who can be responsible for insuring that you are exploring the most recent and most current resource.

That various software packages are discussed here is IN NO WAY an endorsement of any or all of them.

ROADS  (Resource Organisation And Discovery in Subject-based services)

ROADS [1] is a UKOLN perl-based product that runs in a UNIX environment. It is designed to build subject based Web gateway sites. It is also an effort to develop standards and to support research into the development of Web protocols and information retrieval tools.

MARCit

MARCit is described as a semi-automated tool to catalog the Internet in MARC. Marketing stuff at: http://www.marcit.com/

OCLC Products

SiteSearch  is designed to integrate electronic records within the library OPAC. It runs in the WWW environment.

Mantis  is a generalized metadata tool designed for the low end end user.
