Description
Non-linear editing, satellite dishes, studios and labs, digital video and hdv cameras, a remote production van, digital audio production gear, and a nationally-ranked computer infrastructure are all part of the Mass Media program. Students train on industry standard equipment while learning to incorporate technique and theory in their work.

STUDIO B (40 feet by 30 feet)
Our primary studio in Mass Media, this studio is used for most VSU TV Productions, News, Narrative Studio Productions, and Valdosta City shoots.

 
STUDIO B CONTROL
Studio B Control is equipped with a Pinnacle Digital Switcher, 24 Channel Audio Console, Computer Teleprompter, and CNN Pathfire. It is also equipped for multi-source playback as well as Live, Live-to-Tape, and Live-to-Digital dissemination.
 

STUDIO A (30 feet by 20 feet)
This multipurpose production area is used for teaching television studio production, camera and lighting workshops, and various audio applications. The studio is outfitted with 3 Ikegami studio configured cameras.

 

STUDIO A CONTROL
Studio A Control is equipped with a Grass Valley Production Switcher, 16 Channel Audio Console, and multi-source playback and tape capabilities. It also has a digital recorder for DVD or Live-to-Digital capability.

 
DIGITAL EDITING LAB
The Digital Editing has 16 individual Editing Workstations. With advanced production classes capped at 16, this ensures that each student works from a single machine. The lab is also connected to a media server allowing for complete digital workflow from start to finish. Each machine is loaded with Avid Editing Software and the Adobe Video Collection Bundle which includes: Premiere Pro, AfterEffects, Encore, Audition, and PhotoshopCS.
 
JOURNALISM LAB
The Journalism Lab is adjacent to Studios A and B. The lab is utilized by the Broadcast Journalism students for research and compiling information, rundowns, and scripts for VSU TV Newcasts. The lab has 6 Internet workstations, a phone, printer, a television with cable access to other new organizations, and a Digital Editing Workstation specifically for News.
 

DIGITAL EDITING WORKSTATION
The Digital Editing Workstations are state-of-the-art workstations that are upgraded every two-years. As the Mass Media Digital Editing Lab is an offically recognized VSU computer lab, student technology fees are designated specifically for hardware and software upgrades.

 
DIGITAL AUDIO WORKSTATION
Each workstation in the Digital Editing lab is also loaded with Adobe Audition Audio software. In addition to the 16 stations in the lab, an individual Digital Audio Workstation is secured in an isolated audio area for recording Voice Overs, ADR, and other audio processes.
 
AUDIO RECORDING BOOTH
The Audio Recording Booth is an acoustically isolated area specifically for recording Voice Overs, ADR, and any other audio recording where isolation is required.
 
IKEGAMI STUDIO CAMERA
Studio A and B are both outfitted with Ikegami Studio Cameras. Studio B has 4 cameras and Studio A has 3 cameras.
 
JVC HDV
The Mass Media program uses JVC HDV cameras for HD production. These state-of-the-art HD cameras are utilized by the Video emphasis for Narrative Productions and the International Docmentary Production emphasis for Documentary Productions. The camera is equipped with a Hard Disk recorder allowing for tapeless aquisition and also shoots 24fps at 720p.
 
PANASONIC DVCPRO
The Mass Media program has 4 Panasonic DVCPro Camcorders for EFP and ENG Production. The cameras are utilized by the Broadcast Journalism emphsis area for field newsgathering and reporting.
 
CANON GL2
The Mass Media program has 7 Canon GL-2 Camcorders as well as 4 Canon GL-1 Camcorders which are used in Introduction to Electronic Media Production and Electronic Field Production I.
