WebCT Vista Streaming Procedures
We can capture video from standard analog and digital formats. Copyrighted material can be placed on a secure website such as WebCT Vista; however, strict Fair Use guidelines must be adhered to. All copyrighted videos that will be accessible via the WebCT Vista server must follow the criterion below:1. The video will be used to illustrate a concept in a Valdosta State University classroom; 2. Valdosta State University owns the Original Copy (Master Copy) of this videocassette; 3. The website on which the video will be streamed has restricted access (i.e. password access, WebCT user authentication, etc.) 4. The video will be removed as soon as its instructional purpose is full-filled. Note: The amount of time given to the viewing of copyrighted material, which would include audio and video, within a secured online course must be comparable to that found in a traditional classroom – this is usually one class session. It is therefore recommended that the presentation of copyrighted material be pre-stated in the course syllabus allowing students time to arrange their schedules. 5. This video will not be copied, recorded, downloaded, or indexed for searching.
Procedure:
- Deliver video to media.
- Fill out a media project slip - choose AV capture/stream.
- Sign copyright waiver agreeing to the fairuse guidelines. On the copyright waiver fill in the upload and removal dates for the video.
- Once the video has been uploaded to the Cinema video streaming server a URL will be emailed to the faculty so that he/she can link the video from their VSU WebCT Vista course.
- It would be a good idea for faculty to create an excel spreadsheet indicating titles of videos that have been uploaded, their uploaded dates and the dates that they need to be removed.
