Media uses two systems for video editing, namely the Casablanca Avio and Adobe Premiere. The Avio system is used for basic VHS editing. A dual hardware/software package, it is capable of digitizing an analog VHS signal and editing it to a specific time. The input/output signal for this system is composite RCA cables. Three projects can be run on this system simultaneously with over 3 hours of footage total able to be recorded. In general, employees should be able to sit down with customers unacquainted with the Avio and quickly give them a working overview on how the system works. This will be satisfactory for most basic to moderate video editing needs.
The Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 editing package is used for higher quality and more in-depth editing purposes. It uses a firewire (IEEE 1394) to connect to a digital source, such as mini DV camera or deck. Through the firewire, the camera can be controlled via the computer. The audio/video signal from the source will be recorded directly to the computer’s HDD. Premiere is capable of using either Single Track or A/B Editing. The differences between single track and A/B editing are slim. The main difference is transitions. In A/B editing, in order to create a transition the video on Track A must overlay the video on Track B. However, it must only overlay it as long as you want the transition. Do not overlay the entire video clip. In Single track editing, you simply lay the two items of video on the same track and the program interpolates the footage for however long the transition is. There is no wrong way, simply a matter of preference. Both editing styles are capable of the same functions. With the Adobe package, individual project files from Premiere can be opened in Adobe After Effects 6.5 for more in-depth post production editing. When all editing is complete, we have Adobe Encore DVD 1.5 to create DVD's with. This program allows you to build a menu that is fully interactive and then burn to DVD to make you projects even more professional.
