Finding Journal Articles
Accessing GALILEO
To search for articles, use GALILEO, a collection of over 200 databases. Click on the GALILEO tab at the top of the library's webpage.
If you are accessing GALILEO from off-campus, you will need "anywhere access." See the instruction page for options and directions.
You can try the Business & Economics subject category, or click on the Databases A to Z button to get a list of all the GALILEO databases.
Recommended databases for international business and management topics include:
- ABI Inform Complete: includes some full-text articles
- Business Source Premier: includes some full-text articles
- Academic Search Premier: includes some full-text articles
- Lexis-Nexis: includes full-text, also a good source of international news
- Research Library: includes some full-text articles
In addition, consider searching social science databases (e.g., Communication and Mass Media Complete for intercultural communication issues).
Search Tips
- Try various combinations of terms:
- management and culture and france
- business etiquette and australia
- management styles and singapore
- corporate culture and canada
- trade and thailand
- Look at the subject headings or descriptors that are assigned to each article. In most databases, these headings are hypertext links you can click on for additional articles on your topic.
- In Lexis-Nexis, try the Business and Reference sections. In the Reference section, choose Country Profiles.
How to Find Out if Odum Library has a Particular Journal
Odum Library does not subscribe to all the journals and magazines that you come across in the databases. To find out if the library has a specific journal, use the Quick Search "Journals" tab. The top box will check online availablility, the bottom box will check whether it is available in print. In both cases, be sure to enter the name of the journal, not the title of the article.

You can also sign up for Google News Alerts, which are "emails automatically sent to you by Google when there's news about a topic of interest to you. You specify words likely to appear in articles about your topic and Google finds and delivers the news to you as it appears online."
To set up a Google Alert, go to the Google News-World page and click on News Alerts in the left-hand column. Then you can type in your country name and email address.

- Doing Business Database providing objective measures of the cost of doing business in a country. From the World Bank.
- Foreign Embassies of Washington, D.C.
- General Country Overviews
- Background Notes: Country surveys produced by the U.S. State Department.
- Country Studies Book-length studies of nearly 100 countries. Covers history, society, government, economy, etc. Some reports are dated.
- Many of the studies include chapters on international economic relations and foreign trade.
- Each study has a search engine. Try searching for foreign trade, management, or domestic economy.
- World Factbook: Basic country profiles from the CIA.
- Country Commercial Guides (CCG) Country Commercial Guides (CCG's) are prepared annually by U.S. embassies with the assistance of several U.S. government agencies. These reports present a comprehensive look at countries' commercial environments, using economic, political and market analysis. Most guides have sections on major economic trends, marketing U.S. products and services, business customs, and investment climate.

- Export.gov This site includes some country informatioin, but the focus is on exporting.
- FITA International Trade Web Resources More than 7000 links to International Trade / Import-Export Web sites are annotated and indexed. You do need to register (for free) to use this web resource.
