GALILEO Toursearching in a database example |
![]() |
For this example we will locate articles related to a topic in education.
- The GALILEO homepage appears as follows:
- Left click on the Databases A-Z tab.
- From the Find Databases page you have several choices. You can view the entire list of database by left clicking on All databases. If you know the name of the database you would like to search, you can either type the name of the database into the search box and then left click on Find Database OR you can select the first letter of the name of the database that you would like to search and scroll down the list to find your database.
- For this demonstration, let's search in Academic Search Complete. Type Academic Search Complete into the search box then left click on the Find Database button.
- Academic Search Complete will appear. To begin your search, left click on the Academic Search Complete link.
- Select the Advanced Search tab (this will give you three search boxes to use). Type your subject/keywords into the available search boxes. For this demonstration we will use Learning AND Mathematics AND "Academic Achievement" (use quotation marks around phrases).
- Scroll down to the Refine Search area and place a check mark in the box following Full Text and Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals. This will limit your search to ONLY Full Text from Scholarly Journals.
- Left click on the Search button or press the enter key on your keyboard.
- Your results page will now appear if there are articles available on your keywords.
- This search returned 122 articles. You can refine this search a bit more by selecting a subject heading under the Narrow Results by Subject area (located on the left side of the results page).
- Left click on MATHEMATICS -- Study & teaching
- This is a typical results list. You can left click on the article title to review the abstract. If the article is available in full-text from this database, you can left click on the PDF Full Text link.
