What is EBSCOhost?

EBSCOhost is not a database.  EBSCOhost is a company that offers a variety of proprietary full text databases and popular databases from leading information providers. The comprehensive databases range from general reference collections to specially designed, subject-specific databases for public, academic, medical, corporate and school libraries.

When creating your Works Cited/References/Bibliography, make sure that you cite the database name, and not “EBSCOhost”.

Searching in Multiple Databases

It is possible to search in multiple EBSCOhost databases at the same time.  This can save you both time and effort when searching.

  • Once inside an EBSCOhost database click on the Choose Databases tab.  For this example, we’re using Academic Search Premier.

  • Now select the databases that you wish to search by clicking the checkbox next to the database name.

  • The database that you were originally searching will already be selected.

  • Left-click on Continue.

  • You will notice that you are now searching in Multiple Databases.

Adding Records to your Folder

The Folder is useful for temporarily saving records while searching.  If you have created a My EBSCOhost account, you can save records permanently.

  • Once inside an EBSCOhost database, you can temporarily save records by clicking on the Add to Folder icon.

Highlights the "Add" icon next to each record.

  • Once selected, the record will display that it has been Added, and the Folder will change to say Folder has items

Print, Email or Save Records

There are two ways to Print, Email or Save records:  by the individual record, or by items in the Folder.

From a Single Record

  • When looking at a single record in an EBSCOhost database, you can click on the Print, E-mail or Save links to print, e-mail or save that individual record.

From the Folder

  • Once you have saved items to the Folder, you can click on either the Folder icon at the top of the screen, or the Folder has items link to view the Folder.

  • Next, click on either the Print, E-mail or Save links to print, email or save the items in the Folder.
