Las Posadas

This story focuses on a special Mexican Christmastime tradition called "las posadas" which begins on December 16th. A new generation of Mexican Americans has brought an old Mexican Christmas custom to Douglas, Georgia. Special thanks to St. Paul's Catholic Church and the community of Town and Country Trailer Park in Douglas. The Sounds of South Georgia is made possible with support from Valdosta State University, and from the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.

Young people dressed as Mary and Joseph lead a candlelight procession of "pilgrims" from house to house symbolically seeking "posada" or lodging for the night, Broxton, 2003.
