Lebanese Easter

The Valdosta Lebanese community came to South Georgia in the early 1900's and founded st. John's Catholic Church. Every Eastertime for decades, women of the community have continued to make special Lebanese cookies using recipes passed down from the immigrant generation. Special thanks to the Noel George family of Valdosta. The Sounds of South Georgia is made possible with support from Valdosta State University, and from the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.

Women gather in the Georges' dining room to roll out the cookies, 2004.
