Media Services: Final Cut Studio 2 now available!

Media Services is now offering students access to the new Final Cut Studio 2 editing suite! Along with the exciting new software the media center is now equipped with a new 24”widescreen iMac.  The iMac is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and offers a variety of multimedia Mac applications.  In addition to Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard and iLife ’08 software, this machine offers the entire Final Cut Studio 2 Suite.  The 24 inch 1920-by-1200 resolution display provides more than enough room and clarity for all of your audio and video editing needs.  Final Cut Studio 2 programs provide all the tools necessary for audio/video editing and production.  So be one of the first to complete your academic video project on this new and exciting editing system! Final Cut 2 includes: Final Cut Pro 6, Motion 3, Soundtrack Pro 2, Compressor 3, DVD Studio Pro 4, and Color, for professional color grading.

Media Services: New Late Fee and Return Policy implemented

Tech Tips: Check out our Flip camcorders!

Do you need to record your teaching practicum and upload it to LiveText or record an interview and embed it into PowerPoint? Media Services has recently added six new flip camcorders that make these tasks as simple as 1-2-3. In just a few simple steps you can record, upload and embed your videos assignments with no problems.  The flip camcorder also provides a quick and easy way to upload your videos to YouTube, Facebook or MySpace. Title: MEDIA UTILIZATION SPECIALIST- Media Content Development – Odum Library Media Center
Job Category: Technical
Salary: $17,751.00 annually RANGE:Up to 10% depending on qualifications
Duties: Install, maintain and operate state of the art, computerized multimedia audio/visual equipment and software to support various instructional methods and techniques; provide training and assistance to students, faculty and staff in the use of multimedia equipment and media production software; assist Media Services Director in the daily operation of Media which includes the supervision and training of student assistants. Manage equipment inventory utilizing an automated circulation module. Emphasis of this work is placed on media content development.
Qualifications: Required: High school or GED and 2 years experience with demonstrated software/hardware skills; excellent interpersonal, communications, and organizational skills; commitment to customer service and team oriented management; work collaboratively within an academic community; interpret client needs and produce material that is instructionally sound; manage and meet deadlines; adapt and learn new procedures and software programs; must enjoy working in a fast pace environment. Desired: Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technology or related field with practical experience with the Adobe and Macromedia educational software titles.

Tech Tip: Burn Your Discs at Media Services

With the replacement of six DVD burners all Media Center computers now support DVD +/- R Dual Layer DVDs.  All media projects can now be completed on DVD-R’s.  Hopefully the DVD+R’s will be phased out.  The six new drives installed in the HP computers all support LightScribe Disc Labeling technology.

With the addition of LightScribe, custom DVD labels can be easily created using hundreds of pre-designed templates and the software already available on the computers.  LightScribe CD’s are available in the Media Center.

Media Center Upgrades

Working on final projects for the semester? The Media Center has what you need to make the perfect media presentation! On November 30th, 2007, the Media Center will upgrade to the following software programs:

  • Adobe Encore2.0
  • Adobe Photoshop CS3
  • Adobe Audition 2.0

The Media Center has recently upgraded their OCR scanning software from OmniPage Pro 15.0 to OmniPage Pro 16.0.
