The Academy's teaching guides might be of interest to our students in middle-grades and secondary education (also I was aiming for a tie-in with the Oscars).

The guides focus on film history, practical preparation, writing, learning to see what's in the frame, and developing ideas for film.

I review educational documentaries for other librarians, and I've certainly seen films (though not many) that demonstrate the filmmaker's proficiency with software, but little else. :)

Thanks for your comment!

It seems that, with the new wave of home computer software, that many students now have access to a monumental amount of film editing and visual effect software.

Still, for those who choose to take their at home hobby as a serious vocation, these guides will prove very useful.
