Neat Stuff: Voudou in the South

Large books are often shelved in the Library’s OVERSIZE section, an oft-forgotten northwest corner of the third floor. Moseying in OVERSIZE we found Alberto Venzago’s black and white photographs of African Voodoo priests, fetishes and followers in Voodoo: Mounted by the Gods. For another writer’s personal investigation of voodoo in today’s American South, we recommend American Voudou: Journey into a Hidden World, available as an e-book through Odum’s online catalog.

Friday Feedback: Music?

In honor of Ms. Jackson (if you’re nasty), we’re looking for a little feedback. Every Friday we’re going to ask you, the loyal Odum Library users what we should do to make the library a little better.

This week, we’re looking for some good tunes…search the GIL Catalog for your favorite music. If you don’t see it, leave us a comment right here on the blog and we’ll order it.

Have other suggestions? Leave us a note here or on the Contact Us page.

Neat Stuff: Author on Author Action!

Recently on National Public Radio, author Michael Chabon recommended Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Exploits of Brigadier Gerard, available here in Odum, crazily enough, in its 1896 edition. If you liked Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize-winning The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, check out his first novel The Mysteries of Pittsburgh wherein a recent college graduate comes to terms with his friends, his sexuality and his dad’s job with the Mob.
