Call Numbers for Award-Winning Children's Literature
Award-winning children's books are cataloged for the children's literature collection, with the LZ call number prefix (see instructions for 6 excepted awards* below).
Add a 586 tag to the bib record for the name of the award and the year (if known):
Add a subject heading for the award (we haven't implemented this yet):
*Winners of these six awards:
Newbery
Caldecott
Coretta Scott King
Georgia Children's Book
Georgia Children's Picture Storybook
Pura Belpre
are labeled with the award name and shelved separately as described below. Only the medal winners in the six categories above (not honor books, finalists, and the like) receive this treatment:
MFHDs (for 6 awards listed above)
Location (MFHD tag 852, subfield $b) is LZAWARDS
Prefix (MFHD tag 852, subfield $k) is AWARD, followed by a word representing the name of the award, (see below) followed by the year the award was given:
SPINE LABELS (for 6 awards listed above)
Omit the LZ prefix.
The first line on the spine label is the prefix AWARD
The second (or second and third line) on the spine label is a word (or words) representing the name of the award:

The next line on the spine label is the year of the award
The call number follows.

Print a label for the front cover of the book with the name of the award and the year. The label is placed along the top right edge of the front cover. Look at award-winning books on the shelves for examples.
