Maintaining the BROWSE collection

Approximately every 12 months (or as needed if the BROWSE shelves are crowded), review the BROWSE collection and pull books that have been in BROWSE for more than one year.

Evaluate the physical condition of the books.

  • Refer books that need rebinding to the Bindery clerk in Acquisitions.
  • Refer titles of books that are damaged or have loose pages to the Collection Development Librarian (Tamiko Lawrence) for decisions as to whether they should be re-ordered.
  • For titles being discarded, bibliographic records must be suppressed in Voyager and holdings deleted from OCLC. (Check here for detailed instructions).
Move books in good condition to the STACKS.
  • If necessary, edit input stamps, etc. from the bibliographic record in Voyager.
  • Edit the MFHD 852 $b to the new location (usually STACKS).
  • In the Item Record, change the Location and Item Type to indicate the new location.
