Acquisitions/Serials
ac·qui·si·tion a-kw&-'zi-sh&n
1 : the act of acquiring
2 : something acquired or gained (Merriam-Webster Dictionary & Thesaurus)
The Acquisitions/Serials Department is responsible for the expeditious ordering and receipt of materials in all formats -- books, periodicals, music, CDs, videos, electronic databases, among others -- from all over the world and the management of the materials budget. The department uses three methods to acquire materials: purchases, gifts, and Federal Deposit. The acquisition of materials is shaped by the Library's Collection Development Policy. The Odum Library collection currently has over 500,000 items.
The Acquisitions/Serials Department works with academic department coordinators, librarian liaisons, donors, and others to build the libraries' collections in support of the academic mission of the university. The Department is also responsible for book repairs, binding, recycling of withdrawn materials, and the maintenance of periodicals holding information.
