AudioVisual Collection
In support of curricular needs, Odum Library has a long standing tradition of collecting non-print mediums, video recordings on tape and DVD, sound recordings as on vinyl, cassette tape, and now CD, as well as other kinds of audiovisual materials. All of these materials, movies, music, or other audiovisual items are in the GIL@VSU Catalog.
To Search for all videos including VHS and DVD
- Select the GIL@VSU Catalog Keyword Search tab
- Select the Narrow Your Search button
- Beside the word Medium, scroll down and choose Videorecording
- Select the Narrow Your Search button
- The screen will return to the Keyword search fields
- Enter the desired terms in the search boxes
- Press the Go button to see the search results

+Go to a list of the video recordings in the Fine Arts Materials Collection (FAMC)
+Go to a list of the video recordings in the Instructional Materials Collection (IMC)
To Search for all Musical Sound Recordings including Vinyl records, tape cassettes, and CD's
- Select the GIL@VSU Catalog Keyword Search tab
- Select the Narrow Your Search button
- Beside the word Medium, scroll down and choose Sound Recording
- Select the Narrow Your Search button
- The screen will return to the Keyword search fields
- Enter the desired terms in the search boxes
- Press the Go button to see your search results

+Go to a list of all sound recordings in the Fine Arts Materials Collection (FAMC)
+Go to a list of all sound recordings in the Instructional Materials Collection (IMC)
To Search for Books on tape or CD, Nonmusical Recording
- Select the GIL@VSU Catalog Keyword Search tab
- Select the Narrow Your Search button
- Beside the word Medium, scroll down and choose Nonmusical Recording
- Select the Narrow Your Search button
- The screen will return to the Keyword search fields
- Enter the desired terms in the search boxes
- Press the Go button to see your search results
Exact Search Quick Limits for video recordings title only:
- Quick limits only work for exact titles of video recordings (there are no quick limits for other media types)
- Do not use the exact search unless you know the exact title. Leave off a beginning "a", "an", or "the". Other than that the title you enter must be absolutely exact or you will yield no results.
- Select Exact search
- Set your Quick Limit to the right on "video recording" (Please note that quick limits only work on title searches.)
- Enter the desired title in the Find this: search box
- Press the Go button to see your search results
General GIL@VSU Catalog Keyword Search tab tips
- If using more than one word, choose "all of these", "any of these", or "as a phrase" from the search box drop down menu
- Do not use articles (A, AN, or THE) as search words
- To search for all feature film movies, narrow your limits to video recording and use the keywords "feature" and "film"
- When looking for digital media such as DVD's or CDs, type digital as one of your keywords and avoid having to narrow your limits

- Consider recommending a Library purchase if you didn't find the needed title
- Finally there is ILL - Odum Express, but most libraries do not loan their audiovisual titles.
