Meet the Staff
Laverne Lewis Gaskins serves as in-house counsel for Valdosta State University in her position as University Attorney.
Ms. Gaskins earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, with honors, from Valdosta State University, and thereafter received her Master of Education degree in Guidance and Counseling. She earned her Juris Doctor degree from Florida State University's College of Law. Prior to beginning her career in education law, she was engaged in the private practice of law. Currently Ms. Gaskins serves on the Editorial Board of The Journal of College and University Law.
Ms. Gaskins is a member of the Georgia Bar and is admitted to practice in all state courts of Georgia, the Georgia Supreme Court, the United States District Court of Georgia, the Middle District of Georgia and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Her articles have appeared in The Journal of College and University Law, Georgia Bar Journal, National Bar Association, and Black Issues in Higher Education.
Ms. Gaskins is a member of the National Association of University and College Attorneys and the Education Law Association. In 2006, Ms. Gaskins was elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. In 2008, Gaskins was appointed to the Board of Governors for State Bar of Georgia, and the Florida State University College of Law Alumni Board.
Verna Foster Harvey currently serves as Legal Assistant for Valdosta State University's Attorney.
Mrs. Harvey earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Legal Assistant Studies from Valdosta State University and thereafter received her Master's in Public Administration. She is currently a member of the National Association of Legal Assistants.
Verna is a former employee of Valdosta State University.
