The Emerging Leader Program is an opportunity
for first semester students to get involved on campus. The program is designed
to enhance leadership styles and skill sets that will help develop individual
leadership potential.
A 2007 survey of this program
shows that students that have participated in this program have higher GPA’s than
the average freshman and these students show higher graduation rates too.

How many
students will be in the program?
A.
The program will
be limited to 75 first-year students. Please submit your application
promptly if you are interested.

All
candidates will be sent an email no later than June 2; please include an email
address that is checked frequently.
Q.
Am I required to live in Lowndes Hall if I join the Emerging Leader program?
A. Yes. Students who participate in an LLC (Living Learning
Community) live on the same floor and attend classes together. These students
tend to become more involved in their communities, have more academic
successes, and adjust more quickly to the academic and social demands of living
at a large university.
Program
Arrival Times:
Students selected for the
program will be required to return to the campus and move-in to their assigned
residence hall on August 10, 2008.
Each student will need to check-in at Lowndes Hall at the specified time in your
acceptance letter. The entire group, along with participating campus faculty
and administrators will depart from campus on August 11 to the retreat location
and return to campus on August 12 to participate in Fall Explosion activities
planned for freshman and returning VSU students. Specific details will be
in a letter by July 31, 2008.

The
Office of leadership Programs is dedicated to preparing students for positions
of leadership both inside and outside of the University community. The
program encourages involvement in leadership opportunities to promote
leadership, citizenship, and personal development.
LeaderQuest is made up of three components: Emerging Leaders, Existing
Leaders and Experienced Leaders. Each program is designed to give students
an opportunity to become involved in leadership opportunities appropriate to
correspond with their collegiate experience.
