Study Abroad Scholarships For Business Students

THE PROGRAM

The Langdale College of Business (LCOBA) at Valdosta State University has established a scholarship program to assist Valdosta State University business students with their study abroad endeavors. Scholarships are offered for approved study abroad programs.  The Study Abroad Scholarship Program is administered by the Study Abroad Scholarship Committee, comprised of professors of LCOBA.

ELIGIBILITY

There are currently 2 different scholarships available: the First State Study Abroad Business Scholarship, and the Steele Study Abroad Scholarships. Applicants for the First State Study Abroad Scholarship (a) must be pursuing a business degree at LCOBA, (b) must have attained a minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 after completing the sophomore curriculum; and (c) must be seeking financial assistance for a study abroad program.  Applicants to the Steele Study Abroad Scholarship Program must be full-time business majors (a) who have been accepted to Langdale College, or (b) who have a GPA of at least 2.8 on a scale of 4.0. Undergraduate and graduate students may apply. The committee also considers additional factors in its decision about the award of scholarships.

AWARDS

The First Bank Scholarship award for each calendar year will be in the amount of $1,000.00.  The number and amount of awards from the Steele Scholarship fund may vary for each study abroad program, depending upon the number of qualified applicants, and the costs of the study abroad programs.  Previous awards from the Steele Scholarship fund have been in the amount of about $1,000.00, but future awards may be more or less.

APPLICATION AND SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS

Interested students must complete the following application, supply all documentation requested, and return it to Dr. Elvan Aktas, Pound 214 (Dept. of Accounting and Finance Suite, Demetress Rozier), by 5 p.m. on the second Friday in January .   Banner on-line transcripts are acceptable.  Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.  All information received is treated as confidential. Additional information may be requested. Submission of an application constitutes applicant’s agreement to accept the decisions of the Study Abroad Scholarship Committee as final.  The Study Abroad Scholarship Committee will announce its decision by the last business day in January. Students may reapply for a scholarship each year that they meet eligibility requirements. The Study Abroad Scholarship Program reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time, including termination of the program.

PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarships are paid in one installment before the due date for the final payment of the particular study abroad program chosen.  Scholarships are not paid directly to students. If a scholarship is awarded, the amount awarded is sent to the office of Financial Aid, Student Accounts, which credits the student’s account with the amount awarded to that student.  From the new balance in the student’s account, any amounts due for any term are deducted from the student’s account, and the excess, if any, is sent by check to the student for use in paying for the study abroad program. This is done after Proof Rolls are filed.
