Dr. L. Wayne Plumly, Jr.

Interim Dean and Professor of Economics

Dr. L. Wayne Plumly, Jr. is a Professor and Head of Marketing/Economics. Dr. Plumly has an undergraduate degree in economics from the College of William & Mary and masters and Ph.D. in economics from Georgia State University. He has been teaching at Valdosta State University for the past 27 years. He has received 13 teaching awards including the University System of Georgia Board of Regents' 1998 Regents Teaching Excellence Award, 2003 Leavey Award for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education, the 2004 Kenneth G. Elzinga Distinguished Teacher Award presented by the Southern Economic Association, and the first ever 2004 VSU Excellence in Teaching Award. His research and teaching interests are labor economics, public finance, and economic education. Dr. Plumly has published 13 refereed articles and numerous other publications. Dr. Plumly is the faculty advisor for the VSU Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) for the past 12 years. VSU SIFE has won eleven consecutive regional championships and finished in the top 4 nationally in 2002, 2004 and 2005.

Dr. Plumly is married to Cindy Kay and has three children.
