Dr. Sanjay Gupta
Professor of Accounting
Dr. Sanjay Gupta has been at the Langdale College of Business at Valdosta State University for the past eleven years. He completed his Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida in 1997, MBA from Georgia Southern University in 1993, and Bachelors of Commerce from Calcutta University, India, in 1987. He worked with Xerox Corp. as a Senior Credit Executive for five years before deciding to pursue an academic career.
His primary teaching interests are in the areas of cost and managerial accounting. Dr. Gupta currently teaches in both the traditional MBA as well as the Georgia WebMBA© program. He has also taught several accounting courses in the distance-learning format. Dr. Gupta has won the Georgia WebMBA© ' Outstanding Faculty of the Year ' award in 2007 and 2008. Dr. Gupta has been nominated for the Langdale College of Business Administration "Outstanding Teacher" of the year award by the Student Advisory Council nine of the past ten years and has had the honor of winning the award in 2000, 2004, 2007, & 2008.
Dr. Gupta’s primary research interests are in the areas of management accounting, quality control and modeling, and accounting education. He has published in some of the leading academic journals such as the Journal of Forecasting, Quarterly Journal of Business & Economics, the TQM Magazine, Academy of Educational Leadership Journal, Journal of Accounting Education, Leadership & Organization Development Journal, Accounting Instructors' Report, Academy of Managerial Communications Journal, and the National Accounting Journal. In addition, Dr. Gupta has presented at more than three dozen national, regional, and local conferences.
Dr. Gupta’s commitment to encouraging students to succeed both academically and professionally was recognized by the students in 1999, when he was nominated as faculty advisor for Alpha Epsilon Alpha (AEA), a business honor society, which he served for 5 years. As faculty advisor, Dr. Gupta invited several CPA partners, bank presidents, and human resource directors, as guest speakers. He was also instrumental in assisting AEA members obtain prestigious scholarships, including the annual Georgia Society of CPA’s scholarships and two annual scholarships from the BeckerConviser CPA Review program. In addition, he led the charge in getting the AEA members to participate in and contribute to several community service projects. Dr. Gupta also chaired the Technology Assurance of Learning Task Force and is a member of the Leadership Team.
Dr. Gupta is a CPA and a CMA with more than 7 years of professional work experience.
