Description: An introduction to networking concepts, the Internet, and the World Wide Web with regional and global applications. Students will work with FTP, telnet, email Usenet, listservs, and internet-based electronic bulletin boards, search strategies, and web page construction.

Course Requirements (See the "detailed" requirements for more information.)
Each student will:
  • Take the examinations which will each require use of the software applications and objective questions.
  • Construct an electronic portfolio containing a resume, co-curricular & course transcripts, writing samples, and a photo gallery.
  • Conduct research using the World Wide Web and the VSU's Galileo.
  • Use the internet for video and chat conferencing.
  • Explain the importance of acceptable use policies, passwords, firewalls, virus protection programs, etc.
  • Have an active e-mail account and use it for correspondence to and from the instructor.
  • Complete projects and/or exercises as specified in HTML, word processing, presentation, and/or other software applications.
  • Actively participate in class discussions.
  • Follow the steps in the "How to Succeed in Class Communication" to earn points and demonstrate competencies in communication and project management. This will be part of the grade for this class.

Students will need to purchase at least four 3 1/2 inch, high density diskettes or CD-R/CD-RWs for use in the class. It is expected that each student will complete all assignments on time. If a student misses a class, the student is responsible for all material that was covered in the class. Smoking, food, and drinks are not allowed in the computer labs at any time! Do not turn in someone else's work as your own or allow someone else to copy your work or your disk!
