Setting up FTP

Typically, FTP programs will ask for the following information in order to be able to make a connection from your computer to the web server. Much of the information required is found in Your Account.

How To

Here are some walk-thrus on how to setup various common web design applications commonly found here at VSU. These were designed specifically for creating personal web site. They may of course be adapted to working with department or student organization web sites by using the Remote DIrectory location provided by the Webmaster.

NOTE: Netscape and FrontPage require a special publication string found below.

Username: Your VSU email username
Password:

Contact the Helpdesk to have your password reset if you are unfamiliar with your current password.

Except in the case of Chiron/Teach accounts. In this case, the password is provided after registering for the account.

Remote Directory:

For personal web pages, this is simply: public_html/

For departments or organizations, contact the VSU Webservices.
/web/htdocs/sitename/

Local Directory: File system location of your space on your computer.

FrontPage Publish Location (NOT Live)

For a personal web page, located in your email space, use this string to connect.

     ftp://www.valdosta.edu/./public_html/

For a department or organization web page, use this string to connect.

Netscape Publish Location

For a personal web page, use this string to connect.
