History
The Honors Program on the VSU campus began in 1973 under the leadership of President S. Walter Martin.
The Honors Program coordinators and directors have been:
- Dr. James (Jim) G. Connell, Jr., 1973-1976. Associate Professor of Modern Foreign Languages.
- No director or coordinator, 1977-1981.
- Dr. James (Jim) F. Hill, 1982-1990. Professor of Philosophy.
- Dr. Thomas (Tom) E. Dasher, 1990-1991. Professor of English and Head of Department.
- Dr. Byron K. Brown, Fall 1991-Spring 1993. Professor of English.
- Dr. Brian U. Adler, 1994-2004. Professor of English.
- Dr. Byron Brown, Acting Director, Fall 2004-Summer 2006. Professor of English.
- Dr. Ofelia R. Nikolova, Fall 2006-present, Associate Professor of French
The Honors Program office was located in West Hall room 101 until summer 1997. In 1997, the Honors Program moved to #2 Brookwood Circle. We are #36-A on the interactive campus map. In January 2007 the Honors program then moved to its current home: the VSU Honors House located at 222 Georgia Ave, #12 on the interactive campus map.
