Advantages of Honors Program Membership
Successful honors students share several reasons to participate in the Honors Program
- Small Class Size
Classes are typically 20-22 students (often fewer than 15 students), and individually-tailored honors tutorial courses are often available. - A Sense of Community
Frequent interaction with other honors students and faculty helps build a "feeling of belonging" to the VSU academic community. - Special Honors Advising
Honors advisors in the Honors Program office provide personalized attention to student needs and interests. The Director and Associate Director serve as advisors. You will also find important advising materials regarding Scholarships and Graduate Schools at the Honors House and on this web site - Opportunities for Undergraduate Research and Conference Presentation
Honor students routinely present at Georgia Collegiate Honors Council Conference, Southern Regional Honors Council Conference, Undergraduate Research, Symposium at Valdosta State University, and various professional conferences. - Transcript and Diploma Distinction
Honors courses are designated on a transcript in two manners: by having the letter "H" at the end of the course prefix, and by having the word "Honors" at the beginning of the course title. Students completing the program will also have the statement "Student has satisfied all requirements for the University Honors Program" printed under the term which the student completed final requirements. Students earning the Honors Program Certificate also receive a gold Honors Cord to wear at graduation and a gold Honors Seal that is affixed to their VSU diploma. - Special Honors Events
Enjoy picnics, lectures, special presentations, field trips, etc. Special events are sponsored by the Honors Program and Honors Student Association. - Priority Registration
Honors students in good standing taking an Honors class during the current semester and planning on taking on Honors class during the next semester are eligible to register the first day of Registration.
