Critical: (10/30/2009): Jump Drive Infection Prevention
Our Information Security branch has confirmed that a virus is being spread around campus through infected jump drives.
Symptoms of this infection may include, but are not limited to:
- Inserting the jump drive causes the computer to restart or freeze.
- Numerous files that you do not recognize appear on your jump drive.
- An anti-virus prompt reappears each time the jump drive is plugged in.
Students who think that their jump drive is infected should bring the device to the IT Helpdesk for disinfection. For faculty members, please contact the IT Helpdesk to place a work order for your VSU owned computer and your jump drive to check for viruses and infections.
To prevent the infections from your jump drive from spreading to your personal computer, we recommend that you follow the guides listed below in order to turn off Autoplay on your computer:
