TIP: Opening Microsoft Works (.WPS) Documents on Campus
Microsoft Word is a word processor package included in Microsoft Office, the productivity suite installed in Valdosta State University offices and computer labs. Home users may, however, have an alternative word processor at home, Microsoft Works. This package is generally available when users purchase a new computer since it is a lower priced package. However, it has fewer features and saves documents in a different format than Microsoft Word.
Microsoft Works files will end with the extension .wps as shown on the icon above. If you have a Microsoft Works document, you will not be able to open it directly in Microsoft Word. However, you can use the steps in our guide below to convert it to a Microsoft Word document. After you have converted it, you will be able to view, edit, and print the document on campus computers.
