Purchasing Media for Windows 7
IMPORTANT NOTICE
The Helpdesk offers two versions of Windows 7, a 32-bit and a 64-bit. While the 64-bit version offers higher performance, there are some computers that contain hardware or software that may conflict with Windows 7 preventing you from using either or both.
Since each client is only allowed by contract to purchase EITHER the 32-bit or 64-bit version (but not both), it is important to determine which version suits your home computer's needs. In order to do so, please follow the steps listed below, as they will walk you through running Microsoft's Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.
In addition, Windows 7 is only offered as an upgrade disc. In order to install it, you must have either Windows XP or Windows Vista already installed on the computer.
Step 1:
Go to the Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor site.
Then, click the Download the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor button.
Step 2:
Click the Download button.
Step 3:
Click the Run button.
Step 4:
Once the download finishes, click the Run button.
Step 5:
Make sure the radio button next to I accept the license terms is marked.
Then, click the Install button.
Step 6:
Make sure the checkbox next to Launch Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor is checked.
Then click the Close button.
Step 7:
Click the Start check button.
Step 8:
Microsoft's Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor will now scan your computer and make sure it is ready to run Windows 7. After the scan is done, you will receive the report.
Step 9:
You are now ready to place your order! Please follow the steps available for Placing an Order.
If you are having difficulty please contact the VSU IT Helpdesk at (229) 245-4357 or via e-mail at helpdesk@valdosta.edu.
