Re-install the JRE

 

The IT Staff at VSU have developed a slightly different method for re-installing the JRE. This process consists of three separate steps:

  1. Un-installing the current version of the JRE
  2. Removing files left behind by the un-installer
  3. Manually installing the new JRE

Un-installing the current JRE

Step 1

Select Control Panel from the Start Menu.

Open the Item named Add or Remove Programs.

Click on the item named Java 2 Runtime Environment in the list.

Click Java 2 RE

Step 4

Click on the Remove button.

*** Repeat steps 1-4 if you have more than one copy of Java.

Step 1

Open My Computer.

Open the C: Drive.

Open the Program Files folder.

Right-click on the folder named Java and select Delete from the menu that appears.

Step 1

Go to the following webpage:

Go to the Vista Page

Step 2

Click on the Java link in the sidebar.

Click Java

Step 3

Click on the Java 1.5.0_07 link.

Download Java

Step 4

Make sure that you click the Save button instead of clicking Run or Open.

Click Save

Step 5

Double-click on the file you downloaded to begin the installation. When installing, don't change any of the options, the default values are okay.
