Why do I have two passwords for Remote Desktop?
When you establish a Remote Desktop connection from home, you are initially connecting to the campus Remote Desktop server. In order to establish this connection, you must log in with your FTP username and password. This is the same username and password you use to upload material to your personal VSU website.
Once our server has verified that you are authorized to access Valdosta State University computers from off-campus, it then allows you establish a connection to your office computer. Here you will log in with your Active Directory username and password. This is the same username and password you would use to log into your office computer if you were sitting in the office in front of it.
Does my computer need to remain powered on for Remote Desktop to function?
Your computer will need to remain powered on in order for Remote Desktop to function. In order to prevent unauthorized access to the computer while you are away, we would strongly recommend to lock the computer using the steps listed in our guide for Locking and Unlocking your Office Computer.
What should I do if I lose the Remote Desktop software sent to me by Information Security?
If you have lost the original e-mail from Information Security containing the instructions or the software required for Remote Desktop, please send an e-mail to security@valdosta.edu to request a re-send of this information.
