How To Use WS_FTP LE
Step OneLaunch WS_FTP LE by clicking on the Start button and then selecting Programs, then WS_FTP, and then WS_FTP95 LE.
Step TwoWhen WS_FTP LE opens, your will be presented with a Session Properties window. This is where you will configure WS_FTP LE to connect to the VSU webserver. In this window, click on the New button. Step ThreeNow all the fields should be blank. If they are not please click the New button again. You will now need to enter the proper information on your individual account and the information for the VSU server. The following chart is what you will need to enter to successfully connect:
NOTE: If you do not know your VSU email username click here. For your password, please contact the Information Technology Helpdesk at 245-4357 (245-HELP) for assistance. After entering the information listed above, please click the Apply button. Now you have an FTP Profile for VSU.
Step FourTo connect to the VSU server, please click the OK button. If you have successfully connected (and you have your sound on) you should hear a sound similar to a train horn.
Step FiveAfter making a successful connection, you will see the following screen: ![]() The left-hand side is a listing of the files on your Local System (your computer). The right-hand side is a listing of the files on the Remote System (the server). Step SixTo upload files to your VSU webspace, you will need a directory named public_html. Scroll down the listing of files on the Remote Site (the right-hand side of the program window). If you find a folder named public_html then skip to the next step. Otherwise, you will need to create one. Click the button labeled MkDir on the right-hand side of the window (Remote Site). ![]() In the dialog box that is displayed type public_html and click the OK button.
Step Seven - Transferring FilesTo transfer files to your webspace, you will need to change directories to the public_html folder. To accomplish this, highlight the public_html directory in the listing on the Remote Site and click the ChgDir button.
You will then need then need to change the location of the Local System to where your html files exist. For example, if your files are on a floppy disk, select [-a-] in the Local System listing on the left-hand side of the program window, and click the ChgDir button on the Local System side.
You will then see a listing of the files on your floppy disk in the Local System side and a listing of the files in your public_html folder in the Remote Site side. Now you need to select the Auto checkbox to ensure that your files will be transferred in the correct format.
Then click on the file you wish to transfer in the Local System listing and click the transfer button that is pointing from the Local System to the Remote Site.
After a successful transfer of a file(s) the listing on the Remote Site will change to show that the files exist on the server.
Step Eight - Viewing Your WebpageTo view webpage that you transferred, open a web browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.) and point it to your VSU webspace. The address for this is of the form: http://www.valdosta.edu/~userid/ where userid is replaced with your VSU email username.
You should then see the contents of your VSU webspace. If the initial file you uploaded was named index.html then that page will be displayed first, otherwise you will need to follow the above address with the name of your file. ![]() |
