Step OneLaunch the Secure File Transfer Client by clicking on the Start button and selecting Programs, then SSH Secure Shell, and then Secure File Transfer Client. Step TwoIn the window that opens, click on the Quick Connect button. Step ThreeA dialog box entitled Connect to Remote Host should appear on the screen. In the field labeled Host Name type ftp.valdosta.edu. In the field labeled User Name type your VSU e-mail username. Then click the Connect button. Step FourA message window should appear on the screen containing a warning against attempting unauthorized access. Click the OK button. Step FiveIn the password dialog box that appears, type your password in the field labeled Password, and click the OK button. If you do not know your password, contact the Helpdesk to have your password reset. Step SixAfter connecting successfully, you will see a window similar to the one shown below: The pane on the left-hand side of the window shows a listing of the files on your Local System (your computer). The pane of the right-hand side of the windows shows a listing of the files on the Remote System (the server). Step Seven - Downloading FilesTo transfer a file from the server (Remote System) to your computer, otherwise known as downloading, right-click on it in the right-hand pane and select Download from the menu the appears. Note: the default location for the Local System in the desktop folder. Step Eight - Downloading Files, RevisitedTo download a file from the server to a location other than the default location, right-click on the file in the right-hand pane (Remote System) and select Download Dialog from the menu that appears. In the dialog box that comes up, navigate to the directory in which you wish to store the file and click the Download button. Step 9 - Uploading FilesTo upload a file to the server, right-click on the file in the left-hand pane (Local System) and select Upload from the menu that appears. The file will then be uploaded the the directory that is listed in the right-hand pane (Remote System). Step 10 - Creating a DirectoryTo create a new directory on the server, right-click in the white space in the Remote System pane and select New Folder in the menu that appears. The Remote System listing will automatically scroll down to the bottom, and display a new folder icon with a text insertion-point next to it. Type the name of the folder in and press the Enter key on your keyboard. ![]() |
