Frequently Asked Questions
This FAQ contains questions and answers about connecting to the Novell Server at Valdosta State University.
- When I try to log on to Novell, I get an error message saying "Tree or Server Can't Be Found".
- Make sure that the network cable is secure both at the wall end and at the computer end.
- Login using "Workstation Only" checked.
- Go to "Start" then "Run"
- Type "cmd" and click "OK".
- Type "ipconfig /all" in the window that appears and hit "enter" on the keyboard.
- Look for a line that starts with IP Address.
- When I try to log on to the Novell client, I get an error message that says my password or username is incorrect.
Make sure that you don't have the Caps Lock key on. If you password contains numbers, make sure that the Num Lock key is on or try using the number keys on the top row of the keyboard.
If you can login with Workstation Only mode, contact the Helpdesk to have someone reset your Novell password.
There are three ways to contact the IT Helpdesk:

- If I'm already logged in to Novell, but just want to change the password, how do I do this in Windows 2000/XP?
Press "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" on the keyboard. Click the "Change Passwords" button. Select both resources, i.e. the workstation and the tree icons, that you want to change the password for. (They should already be highlighted in grey.) Enter your old password and new passwords, then click "OK".
- If I'm already logged in to Novell, bust just want to change the password, how do I do this in Windows 98?
Go to My Computer and find out what drive letter is shown as being Public. Go to "Start -> Run" and type "command" followed by the enter key. In the window that appears type "driveletter:", where driveletter is replaced by the letter shown in My Computer as being mapped to Public. Type "setpass" and follow the on-screen prompts.
Right-click on the big red N in the system tray (bottom right of screen next to the clock). Click on the Novell Client Properties item in the menu that appears. Click on the Default Capture tab. Uncheck the box next to Notify.
