General Frequently Asked Questions

This FAQ contains answers to general questions regarding computing and the Internet at Valdosta State University.

  • How can I access the Internet at Valdosta State University?

Computer labs can be found throughout campus, including labs in Odum Library. These computers provide access to the Internet. Also, students living in residence halls have access to the HallNet service, which provides high-speed access to the Internet. Laptop users can access the Internet wirelessly in campus hot spots.

  • What should I do if I have forgotten my password?

You will need to contact the VSU IT Helpdesk to get your password reset. There are three ways to contact the IT Helpdesk:

  1. Visit the IT Helpdesk in Odum Library.
  2. Submit the Password reset form.
  3. E-mail the IT Helpdesk with your full name according to VSU, your date of birth, your VSU Student ID #, and your VSU login name.

Note: Banner Pin Numbers Must Be Reset by the Registrar.

  • How do I view my Unofficial Transcript?

Your Unofficial Transcript can be viewed and printed online through Banner. To find out how please follow this link.

  • How do I get help with a computer problem?

If you are having a problem with your computer, you can contact the IT Helpdesk for assistance with supported products by calling (229)245-HELP (4357) or sending an email to helpdesk@valdosta.edu. If you are  faculty, staff or student in a VSU hall and are having problems with your HallNet service, you may contact the IT Helpdesk.

  • How can I get informed about system and network outages?

Information on the status of VSU Servers and Networks can be found on the Systems and Networking Status Page.

  • Does the University have any recommendations for purchasing a new computer?

(These are recommended minimums)

  • Processor – at least a 1.0 GHZ
  • Hard Drive – at least 20 GB
  • RAM – at least 256 MB
  • CDROM – at least a CDRW drive (and why not a DVD player?)
  • Floppy Drive (optional) – these days we have removable USB flash memory sticks
  • USB slots – at least 2
  • Operating System – WIN 98 2nd Edition
