  • What does VSU use to protect me from SPAM?

In order to help control the ever-growing amount of e-mail spam coming into VSU, the Office of Information Technology has implemented an anti-spam control system called IronPorts.

To learn how to use IronPorts, please follow this link.

  • How do I get a Faculty or Staff E-mail Account?

Previously VSU Faculty and Staff had to fill out a special form to request an e-mail account. With the inception of our new Blazemail system, this is no longer necessary.

All new Faculty and Staff e-mail accounts will be created when the Banner system record for the Faculty or Staff member.

  • I am having a problem sending email on my computer. It receives mails but will not send any.

Off-campus , use the ISP off of your internet provider (ie. SBCglobal, Yahoo!, AOL).
On-campus , make sure that the outgoing server is correct. It must be "smtp.valdosta.edu".

  • How do I forward e-mail as an attachment?

The steps required to forward an e-mail as an attachment vary depending on the e-mail client software that you are using. If you are using Blazenet or Mozilla Thunderbird, no special steps are necessary, as both forward messages as attachments automatically. Eudora, on the other hand, cannot forward messages as attachments. Finally, for step-by-step instructions on how to forward messages as attachments using other e-mail clients, please see the links below.

  • What should I do if my e-mail account has been disabled?

If you try to log into your e-mail and provide the incorrect password on three consecutive attempts, your account will be temporarily suspended. While the account is suspended, you will not be allowed to attempt to login again. This suspension is temporary and will lift within 15 minutes. When the suspension is lifted, you will be able to attempt to log in again. However, if you are still entering incorrect password information, your account will be re-suspended. To resolve the issue, please contact the Helpdesk and we will be more than happy to reset the password for you.

  • How do I send an attachment larger than 10 megabytes by e-mail?

E-mail attachments are limited to a file size of 10 megabytes. If you need to distribute a file larger than this size, you will need to post the file to your Valdosta State University web page. If it is necessary to protect the privacy of the attachment, before you post the file, please send a request to the Valdosta State University Portal Steward by e-mail at portalsteward@valdosta.edu including the web address, the filename, and the Blazenet e-mail usernames of people that need to be have access to it. Finally, send an e-mail with a link to your web page to the people you want to be able to access it.
